About Mats Landqvist

Mats Landqvist is a professor of rhetoric with a focus on crisis communication. His research concerns communicative strategies in various activities, such as healthcare, the police and politically active groups, with a focus on the role of communication in social processes. The projects have addressed the role of language in the meeting between experts and citizens, especially in terms of medical treatment, discrimination, knowledge production and debate. They have also focused on activists' language policy and discussions on social media about denomination practices of discriminated groups, mainly in the areas of LGBTQ, racism and disability. Other projects have circled around communication in the field of care and health, e.g. crisis management strategies in health care counseling by telephone, and health literacy, on how expert knowledge and lay knowledge about illness are negotiated in conversations with doctors and in discussion threads online. Ongoing research includes argumentation and social sustainability in environmental crises, young people's crisis awareness and the professional role of communicators.
