About Sofia Axelsson
Background
Sofia Axelsson has been a registered nurse since 2004 and a specialist nurse since 2020. Sofia has worked at the Oncology Department in Örebro since 2005 and at the radiotherapy unit since 2019.
Research
Since November 2021, Sofia has been registered as a doctoral student at Örebro University at the Institute of Health Sciences. Sofia's thesis work is conducted within the research area of elderly people and radiotherapy where her research project evaluates whether two specific assessment forms can predict the degree of side effects in older patients with cancer based on assessed frailty and is entitled "Radiotherapy for Frail Older Adults with Cancer: Individualised Decision-Making to Optimize Health-Related Quality of Life."
The overall aim of the project is to develop a geriatric assessment strategy for older cancer patients that can predict the effectiveness of radiotherapy, radiation-related side effects and the patient's quality of life in order to more easily individualize the treatment according to the individual's needs and abilities.
Teaching
Sofia supervises students in their advanced assignment in the radiation education program in Lund.
