The purpose of this study is to produce knowledge on the uses of fat-shaming in sport coaching practices from a sociocultural perspective. Specifically, this project will explore the types of fat-faming that are being used in coaching practices, the

way/s in which fat-shaming is explicitly, implicitly or inadvertently used, and how the culture of different sports contribute to the reproduction and normalisation of fat-shaming. The project uses photo elicitation and vignettes for data generation, and embodied and fat pedagogies as theoretical approaches. By investigating if and how fat-shaming is used in coaching practices, we will be able to prevent the use of this harmful practice. This project will also potentially update policy in the area of coach-athlete relations.
