Research subject

Translational Pathogenomics is a research group focused on understanding and improving the diagnosis of both bacterial and viral infectious diseases with clinical and public health relevance. Our work operates at the intersection of molecular techniques, bioinformatics, metagenomics, and applied clinical microbiology.

Our research includes both targeted and broad-spectrum approaches, such as metagenomic and metataxonomic sequencing of clinical samples. These analyses are followed by bioinformatic processing to identify microbial and viral signatures, antimicrobial resistance genes, and the taxonomic composition of complex microbial communities. A central part of our work is bridging the gap between laboratory-based research and clinical application. By combining advanced DNA and RNA sequencing technologies with customized bioinformatic pipelines—within a clinical and epidemiological context—we aim to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of bacterial and viral infections.
Our ultimate goal is to contribute to more precise and evidence-based infectious disease diagnostics in healthcare.
