Copilot for students

Now, you have access to Microsoft Copilot – as a student at Örebro University, . Copilot can answer questions and help you with tasks such as generating text and images, summarising documents, suggesting arguments, proofreading, comparing texts, and more. The service is free to use for Örebro University students and is easily accessed using your ORU account, just like other Microsoft 365 services.

However, be cautious since AI-generated texts are not always factually accurate. Generative AI tools are designed to produce probable answers, not necessarily true ones, and can therefore provide misleading or inaccurate information, especially if they lack access to the right evidence. You should therefore always check the data against other reliable sources.

Why should I be logged in when using Copilot?

When you're signed in to Copilot with your ORU account, the service is just as secure as other Microsoft 365 tools, which means that:

  • The university's agreement with Microsoft protects your questions and answers in Copilot.
  • No information leaves the university's IT environment.
  • Chat data is not saved.
  • Neither Microsoft nor university staff can see your data.
  • Your texts are not used to train the language models that Copilot is based on.

You can use Copilot safely and securely within the university's Microsoft 365 environment.

How to get started with Copilot on the web

  • Go to: https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat
  • Log in with your ORU account username, and add @edunet.oru.se as your login. Example: stusth123@edunet.oru.se. Note: this is not your actual student email address. Use your ORU account password to sign in.
  • You're now logged in and can start using Copilot.
  • Type your question or instruction in the prompt field with the text "Send message to Copilot".
  • Click the plus sign on the left side of the prompt bar to upload a file for the AI Assistant to process.
  • Then, click on the arrow on the right side of the prompt bar and wait for a response from the AI assistant.


Here's how to get started with the Copilot sidebar in Microsoft Edge.

  • Open the Microsoft Edge browser and sign in with your ORU account.
  • Click the colourful Copilot icon in the top right corner of your browser.
  • This opens the Copilot sidebar on the right side of the browser, and you can now start using the Copilot sidebar.
  • Type your question or instruction in the prompt field with the text "Send message to Copilot".
  • Click the plus sign on the left side of the prompt bar to upload a file for the AI Assistant to process.
  • Then, click on the arrow on the right side of the prompt bar and wait for a response from the AI assistant.
Log in to Copilot with your student account
