Postdoctoral researchers in Computer Science, Cybersecurity
Ref no: ORU 2.1.1-03065/2025
We are looking for up to three postdoctoral researchers in Computer Science, specializing in Cybersecurity, for a fixed-term position at the School of Science and Technology.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is Computer Science, Cybersecurity.
Background
The postdoctoral researchers will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science within the School of Science and Technology and will carry on research within the field of cybersecurity. All areas of cybersecurity are of interest. Examples of topics of interest (but not limited to):
- Intersection of cybersecurity and AI, i.e., attacks and defenses leveraging AI solutions, or attacks and defenses within AI solutions (e.g., backdooring, model poisoning, membership inference), cybersecurity of generative AI / LLMs;
- Cyber-physical systems security, e.g., in the fields of robotics, industrial plants, smart grids, automotive, drones, underwater robotics;
- Telecommunications security, e.g., in the fields of 5G/6G, wireless networks, software defined networks (SDNs), and future Internet paradigms, underwater communications, satellite communications;
- Web security and systems security (e.g., remote attestation);
- User authentication and usable security (e.g., biometrics, CAPTCHA);
- Privacy (e.g., information inference);
- Intersection between regulatory and technical aspects (EU NIS-2 Directive), e.g., compliance optimization and automatization.
The postdoctoral researchers will belong to the graduate school within the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). WASP is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish society and industry. Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. Besides consolidating their research and publication track, the postdocs may be required to contribute to the department teaching (whether at the undergraduate or graduate level), up to 20 % of their time.
Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who at the time of appointment hold a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. Applicants with doctoral degrees that have been awarded no more than 3 years prior to the application deadline are to be considered first. The applicant may not have previously held a position as a postdoctoral researcher for more than one year in the same subject and at the same higher education institution. The position is for a term of at least 2 years initially but may be extended for a further 1 year. If the person during the period of employment has been on parental leave, the period of employment is to be extended by the corresponding number of days. The period of employment may also be extended in the event of absence due to illness.
Assessment criteria
A basis for the assessment is the applicant’s ability to disseminate information and communicate; collaborate and engage with the wider community; and facilitate utilisation of the university’s research. In addition, the applicant’s suitability for the position will be assessed. Suitability refers to the applicant demonstrating the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand, the ability to cooperate with other members of staff, and the ability to contribute to the development of the operations.
Particular attention is to be paid to the applicant’s prospects of contributing to the future development of both research and education. Importance is also attached to a demonstrated ability and ambition to embark on a career within academia.
A successful applicant should:
- Be autonomous and show strong and independent problem-solving skills and critical analytical abilities;
- Demonstrate a strong background and publication track within the cybersecurity field, with knowledge of system security, network security, or AI/ML security;
- Have a passion for cybersecurity research in advanced and futuristic topics, as well as for interdisciplinary work at the intersection of AI, robotics, and cybersecurity.
A successful applicant should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to respectful and ethical professional behaviour.
