This dissertation project sets out to investigate feminist activism in music. It is informed by the existence of various initiatives seeking to enhance gender equality within Swedish music scenes, but strives to move beyond traditional gender equality work to look at a broader feminist commitment to change in music. This commitment can be found in several musical genres and practices.
The study is based on interviews and group conversations with musicians and people doing music in different ways. The overall aim is to explore how they experience a need for as well as how they work for change in music related to gender.
The theoretical framework consists of feminist theory with certain emphasis on feminist postconstructionism and intersectionality.
