PELICAN Study ? PELvic Injury in the Conservatively treated Aging populatioN
About this project
Project information
The number of older individuals in the population, as well as the incidence of osteoporotic fractures, is increasing. One such injury is pelvic fracture, and previous studies have shown that many individuals who sustain a pelvic fracture do not regain their pre-fracture functional status. This results in suffering for the individual as well as increased societal costs.
In this project, we aim to follow a cohort of patients with conservatively treated pelvic fractures and investigate the recovery of functional ability during the first six months after the fracture. The assessment of functional ability will include gait performance, mobility, fear of falling and movement, pain, quality of life and frailty. These variables will be assessed repeatedly during the first six months in order to identify critical time points at which there is the greatest need and opportunity for interventions to influence functional recovery.
This knowledge will provide a basis for improving clinical care and rehabilitation strategies.
