Biological factors such as genes, hormones, physiological functions, and brain structure and function are important to understanding criminal behavior.

Biological factors are often studied together with psychological (e.g. personality traits) and sociological (e.g. socioeconomic status) factors in order to gain a better and broader understanding of how different risk factors, in interaction with each other, affect the risk of committing crime. Among other methods, we use experimental psychophysiology to study how biological and other factors are associated with criminal and antisocial behavior.
