Translanguaging Practices in the Multilingual Classroom. Focus on English Medium Instruction, 7.5 Credits

This course is aimed at secondary and upper secondary school teachers in Sweden who either teach through English, that is use English as their medium of instruction, or who teach the subject of English in multilingual classrooms. The participants will familiarize themselves with theories of multilingualism and translanguaging. Through national and international outlooks on translanguaging practices the participants will also deepen their knowledge of various practices and methods to promote students’ learning and language development. The course includes practical components where the participants apply their knowledge.

When is the course offered?

Prerequisites: Bachelor of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Education, Higher Education Diploma in Vocational Education or an equivalent older Teacher Education degree toward primary and lower-secondary school and upper-secondary school. The applicant must also have qualifications corresponding to the course English 6 or English B from the Swedish Upper Secondary School.
