Women’s peace building: challenges and possibilities

The seminar features a dialogue on gender perspectives, human rights, war and women’s agency in peacebuilding processes.

The two presenters, Annette Lyth and Sanela Bajramovic will deliberate on field experiences and research results and discuss possibilities and challenges in the work for peace, human rights and equality in the future, and new research agendas.

Sanela Bajramovic,is a historian and lecturer in educational sciences
at Örebro University. She has investigated gender perspectives on war
and peace from a historicizing perspective, and the role of transnational
women’s organizations in building peace.

Annette Lyth is a legal scholar in international human rights and
humanitarian law, and incoming Director of Swedwatch. She has three
decades of experience with the UN and international organisations,
including OHCHR, UNICEF, UNDP and the OSCE, with field
assignments in Rwanda, the Balkans, Nepal, Southeast Asia and
Afghanistan. She served with the UN in Rwanda in the aftermath of the
1994 genocide and with the OSCE mission in Bosnia during the Balkan
wars. Her most recent UN post was Head of Field Office for the UN
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
