2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), together known as the Twin Covenants.
This occasion provides an opportunity to critically reassess how international human rights law defines, constructs, and limits the notion of ‘the human’ it seeks to protect.
