Om Georgios Filippis

Georgios Filippis is an Industrial Ph.D. student at Örebro University and a Junior Machine Learning Researcher at RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden). With a foundational background in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Master's in Global Environmental Change, his work sits at the critical intersection of applied artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability.

His doctoral research focuses on the AI-driven optimization of landscapes to combat the accelerating climate crisis. Utilizing advanced Deep Learning models and Earth observation data, Georgios contributes currently to the "Grey to Green" project, which aims to transform impermeable urban areas into resilient green infrastructures, and in the future to the PEAT-GENIE project, which focuses on developing AI-powered digital twins for peatland restoration.

By bridging advanced AI technologies with urgent ecological needs, Georgios’s work equips municipalities and land managers with the dynamic, data-driven tools required to navigate the green transition. His research ensures that both urban spaces and natural ecosystems remain stable and resilient in a climate-uncertain future.
