The project has the aim to measure colonisation and  recolonisation of the skin after disinfection with chlorhexidine solution in ethanol in different populations such as   patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or/and valve repair via median sternotomy or populations with patients undergoing implantation of pacemakers/ I  cardioverter defibrillator Outcomes are comparison between different temperature with clorhexidine solution on bacterial growth as well as skin temperatures and patients experiences of the disinfection.   The project also aims to measure the time to recolonisation of the skin after disinfection with chlorhexidine solution in ethanol as well as to confirm whether plastic adhesive drape or microbial sealant facilitates skin recolonisation and enhances bacterial growth.  The project also investigate whether bacterial leakage existed at the surgical glove cuff and gown interface during surgery and whether there were differences in bacterial growth and recolonization of hands between operating room (OR) nurses and non-health care workers. A national survey has also been conducted to explore and describe  OR nurses aseptic techniques and interventions in order to reduce bacteria and postoperative infections.
