The project departed from the twofold meaning of the “representation”, as presence and portrayal. The aim was to examine women's conditions in the film industry, women’s agency and to analyse representations of women on screen. The project was empirically based in analyses of films, interviews with women in the film industry, policy material, contracts and media material.

The project results have contributed with analyses of how gender equality efforts affect production and theoretical developments of how to combine the dual connotations of representation as well as studying women’s organization in film from cinefeminism in the 1970s to #metoo. Finally, studies carried out on the interview material with a special focus on the intersections of gender and age, as well as motherhood should be highlighted.
