POPS - Postoperative care and patient safety

In Sweden, about 1.5 million patients undergo surgery every year. Insufficient care after surgery increases the risk of complications and patient safety incidents. Therefore, the purpose of this research project is to explore threats to patient safety related to complaints and irregularities reported to The Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO), what effect the Covid-19 pandemic had on perioperative care, missed nursing care and reasons for missed care in the postoperative period.

Potential patient safety risks can be identified and proactive actions to enhance patient safety can be brought into perioperative care.
