SMART-PFAS (Science-based Management, Assessment and Remediation Technologies for PFAS in Circular Systems) is a four-year collaborative project led by Örebro University that aims to develop science-based solutions for the safe and sustainable treatment of PFAS-contaminated waste. The project combines advanced analytical methods, studies of PFAS fate and transformation during thermal and non-thermal treatment processes, and optimization of destruction technologies to minimize harmful by-products. Through close collaboration with industry partners, SMART-PFAS will provide evidence-based strategies, analytical tools, and regulatory guidance to support effective PFAS management and remediation.
