Physics is the most basic of the Natural Sciences and describes the laws of nature that govern the behavior of objects of sizes ranging from very small (elementary particles) to very large (galaxies) and everything in between. Focus lies on understanding the forces determining the motion and interaction between different particles or systems, microscopic or macroscopic.

The physics research at Örebro University is concentrated on solid state physics, the branch of physics that describes the interplay between the microscopic structure of solids like for example metals, and their macroscopic (everyday) properties. At a specific level research is carried out along two different lines. One project deals with the optical properties of small, nanometer-sized objects, and another one investigates porous media using variety of statistical methods for example stochastic differential equations and random walks.
