Abstract
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly used across industries, prompting the development of UAV Traffic Management (UTM) systems. Many UTMs rely on strategic deconfliction, where operators submit flight paths as convex space-time volumes, and conflicts arise from overlapping active volumes. The UTM can resolve conflicts by delaying or distorting flight paths within user-approved bounds, aiming to minimize total delay. We formalize this as the Strategic Deconfliction with Trajectory Adjustment (SD-TA) problem, prove that the corresponding decision problem is NP-complete, and present an optimal, anytime algorithm. Our method models flight paths as 4D polytopes and finds separating planes via translation and distortion, scaling to a thousand paths and reducing delays by up to 75%.
