Research within ARC

Örebro University conducts strong research on artificial intelligence and robotics, integrating them across a broad range of topics. ARC connects researchers in these fields and unites them under a single framework. The synergies hold great potential to boost Örebro University’s impact on the development of the field locally, nationally, and internationally.
ARC’s research strategy focuses on enhancing fundamental understanding of the integration between AI and cybersecurity. The research will address issues such as generalisation, robustness, and explainability, and will go beyond purely data-driven models to develop more adaptable and interpretable systems.
In robotics, integrating AI with physical systems requires advancements in learning, perception, and control to enhance autonomy and adaptability in real-world environments.
The intersection of AI and robotics requires breakthroughs in human-AI collaboration, multi-agent coordination, and trustworthy, safe AI – to enable secure, efficient, and scalable robotic systems in dynamic and unstructured environments.
ARC is organised into so-called verticals and horizontals, forming a matrix structure:
- Research Verticals. ARC will have several verticals representing emerging areas to drive basic research in AI, robotics, and cybersecurity, focusing on their intersections and incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives.
- Research Horizontals. Key application areas and societal challenges represent the horizontals, such as mining, which may span several of the Centre’s verticals.
