Om Johan Schnürer

Professor Johan Schnürer (f 1957) är rektor för Örebro universitet sedan 1 juli 2016. Han var vicerektor för samverkan vid Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet (SLU) i Uppsala åren 2010-2016 och dessförinnan prefekt för Institutionen för mikrobiologi, SLU åren 1996-2010.

Johan Schnürer har grundutbildning i kemi, cellbiologi och mikrobiologi från Uppsala universitet. Han disputerade vid SLU år 1985 på en avhandling om marksvampars betydelse för kol- och kväveomsättning. Han blev docent 1988, universitetslektor 1993 och är sedan år 2000 professor i mikrobiologi vid SLU.

Johan Schnürers forskning har handlat om livsmedelsburna mikrosvampar och om deras interaktion med mjölksyrabakterier och propionsyrabakterier. Han har publicerat 110-talet internationella refereegranskade primärpublikationer och review-artiklar och varit huvudhandledare för dussinet slutförda doktorandprojekt. Han har varit opponent vid ett dussintal tillfällen i bland annat Danmark, Holland och Irland. Johan Schnürer har mångårig pedagogisk erfarenhet, bland annat som kursledare under tio år för påbyggnadskurser inom livsmedels- och fodermedelsmikrobiologi samt för nordiska och svenska doktorandkurser i mikrobiologi.

Han har varit initiativtagare till och programchef för flera större forskningsprogram inom mikrobiell bioteknik och miljöteknik med finansiering från bland annat Mistra och industrin. Johan Schnürer har flera patent och en av innovationerna från hans forskargrupp finns som en produkt för biologisk konservering i 20-talet länder. Han är för närvarande styrelseledamot i ett forskarägt IPR-bolag som hanterar immaterialrättsliga frågor kring forskning, kommersialisering och patent. Han är också styrelseordförande i ett forskningsbolag som letar nya antibiotika.

Johan Schnürer är invald ledamot i Kungliga Vetenskapssocieteten i Uppsala (2008) och i Kungliga Skogs- och Lantbruksakademien (2012).
