The research group focuses on social work in a globalised world where the global (international and transnational) contexts of social work are considered and studied. The research focuses on the roles and functions of social work in migration and integration-related issues and welfare challenges. Research in the thematic area deals with issues such as increasing global and local social problems, restructuring of social work as a welfare professional practice, marginalisation, racism and discrimination of various groups in society. Based on the belief in social work as human rights- and justice profession, the research area also include studies on new social movements and practices for social justice against the (re)structuring of welfare.
