Om David Silverlid

David Silverlid is a Doctor of Laws Candidate in International Law and the Course Director for Public International Law at Örebro University. He earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree as a Fulbright Scholar from UCLA School of Law, where he was awarded the Morris Greenspan Memorial Prize and the Masin Family Academic Excellence Gold Award. Before entering academia, David held positions at the ICRC Delegation to the United Nations in New York and the Department for International Law at Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and he served as Country Director for an American NGO that investigated mass atrocities and trained lawyers and human rights defenders in international law in East Africa and Southeast Asia. He has also practiced refugee law and conducted research for the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance.

David is a generalist international lawyer with specialist interests in cyberspace and technology, the law of armed conflict, dispute settlement, and other areas of international law, including international legal history and theory. His current research focuses on extraterritorial enforcement in cyberspace and analyzes to what extent the international law of jurisdiction is changing, be it in customary international law or in the development of treaty law or non-binding norms and principles.

David also serves as the Secretary of the Swedish Branch of the International Law Association and has been a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany.
