The majority of women receiving compulsory care for substance use have experiences of gender-based violence (GBV). Compulsory care is currently undergoing major reforms, yet the knowledge required to strengthen women’s safety and recovery remains limited. The aim of this project is to generate knowledge about women’s vulnerabilities and needs at the intersection of GBV and problematic substance use, both prior to compulsory care and throughout the compulsory care chain (institutional care, residential care, and aftercare), based on the perspectives of both women and professionals. A second aim is to integrate these insights into a vulnerability–need–feasibility model that can guide future research, policy development, and practice.
