Social Violence Studies

Social Violence Studies is a research group based in social work that studies violence as a relational and social phenomenon, with particular focus on how society's responses and interventions are shaped, implemented and affect people's everyday lives and well-being. The group's research is based on the social dimensions of violence and analyses how social relationships, everyday life and social positions influence both the risk of committing violence and experiences of victimization among adults and children. 

A central interest is the significance of close relationships – such as those between partners, parents and children, and other relatives – for the expression, consequences and response to violence, as well as how unequal living conditions shape vulnerability, scope for action, and opportunities for protection and support. Through practice-oriented research and method development, Social Violence Studies contributes knowledge about how social work, welfare interventions and relational support can prevent violence, reduce the risk of continued exposure
