MV Science Forum - open seminar with Adrian Egli
11 maj 2026 11:30 – 12:15 Hörsal X2, Campus USÖ eller zoom Öppet för alla

MV Science Forum invites to a lecture with Professor Adrian Egli, Zürich.
Title: Usage of Artificial Intelligence in Bacterial Genomic Data Analysis
- a rocky road.
Prof. Adrian Egli, MD PhD, serves as director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zürich and leads pioneering research that brings whole‑genome sequencing into routine clinical microbiology; for example, he co‑authored a 2026 study benchmarking Illumina and Oxford Nanopore technologies for bacterial genome sequencing. An internationally recognised clinician‑scientist, he heads national projects on personalised sepsis and rapid diagnostics and has an impressive research record with over 13 000 citations and an H‑index of 58.
His group develops AI‑powered diagnostics - including smartphone‑based imaging with convolutional neural networks and the CarbaDetector machine‑learning model for detecting carbapenemase‑producing bacteria - and his top papers include a Nature Medicine study predicting antimicrobial resistance from MALDI‑TOF spectra using machine learning; these experiences will inform his upcoming talk ¨Usage of AI in bacterial genomics – a rocky road.¨
The lecture will be given in English.
