Genital coevolution and the overlooked female

08 september 2025 15:00 – 16:30 LAB 105, Innovasalen, ARC, Campus Örebro Öppet för alla

During this seminar Dr. Patricia Brennan from Mount Holyoke College will visit the seminar to present her work on genital coevolution and gender.

Sculptures of various shapes.Dr. Brennan studies the functional morphology of genitalia in vertebrates to understand their complex evolution. She is interested in coevolution because the mechanical interaction of genitalia suggests that male and female must fit together to make copulation possible, however, her work has highlighted the gaps in our understanding of female genitalia. She has worked with birds, dolphins, bats, sharks, skates and more recently alpacas and snakes, discovering amazing adaptations in all these groups.

The seminar is live streamed in cooperation with NEOLAiA and workpackage 3 - Diversity and Inclusion. (Note that only the presenter will be on camera). You can join the seminar here: Diversity and Inclusion_NEOlife Events - NEOLAiA - European Universities Alliance
