NEOLAiA meets in Örebro

Happy people with arms over their shoulders.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, nearly 60 representatives from the nine European universities in NEOLAiA will meet at Örebro University to discuss collaboration over the coming years.

Vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, and project managers of the European university alliance NEOLAiA are meeting in Örebro this year, following the European Commission’s review of the first two years of project funding.

The meetings are being held across all three campuses. On Tuesday, discussions will begin at Campus USÖ, and on Wednesday, they will continue at Campus Örebro before moving to Grythyttan after lunch.

Over the two days, plans for the coming years within the alliance will be discussed, partly based on feedback from the European Commission a few weeks ago. All similar EU collaborations are evaluated midway through the funding period to ensure the set objectives are met and to allow for adjustments.

Örebro University joined the NEOLAiA alliance in 2020, and the collaboration has since developed. Today, Örebro University leads the alliance's overall work. Vice-Chancellor Åke Ingerman therefore has the honour, as chair of the network’s highest body (the Governing Board), of welcoming the other universities to Örebro. The alliance’s steering group is led by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dimitri Beeckman.

In NEOLAiA, Örebro University collaborates with Bielefeld University (Germany), the University of Jaén (Spain), the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), the University of Salerno (Italy), the University of Suceava (Romania), the University of Tours (France) and Šiauliai State University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania).

NEOLAiA is a so-called European University, designated by the European Commission. The aim is to strengthen cooperation among higher education institutions in the EU, enhance the competitiveness of European universities, and provide greater opportunities for the internationalisation of education, research, and collaboration.
