Digital activism has become a central way for social movements to organize, mobilize support, and influence societal change. In this open lecture in Informatics, I introduce digital activism as a socio-technical phenomenon, showing how digital platforms and tools shape activist strategies and visibility. I discuss how activists and social movement organizations rely on digital infrastructures for communication and coordination, while facing risks such as surveillance, censorship, and targeted attacks. The lecture highlights how information security challenges emerge from the use of technology, activist practices, and political contexts, and I show the relationship between digital infrastructures, power, and activism.
