Abstract

I will go through the history of scientific publishing from the Open Access (OA) viewpoint, including the infrastructures created for OA from 1991 and onwards. I will mention the political/economical forces pushing for open science, internationally, in EU, within Sweden and for  Örebro University. Open Science includes not only OA, but also open data, open teaching resources and open software. Apart from OA I will concentrate on such research data that is used to write scientific articles or books, where to store it, give access to it and archive it.

I will also mention obstacles for openness, like copyright, company secrets, patents and personal data. Finally I will go through some open science infrastructures that our researchers can or should use, and plans for creating a Research Support Unit at the university.
