The research centre AASS arranges a seminar with Gerald Steinbauer-Wagner, Autonomous Intelligent Systems (AIS), TU Graz.

Abstract

The RoboCup initiative pushes research and development in Robotics and AI by providing challenging standard benchmark problems and organizing competitions. While all began with robot soccer for various types of real and simulated robots RoboCup nowadays it also provide testbeds for more application-oriented problems like domestic service robots, disaster response or flexible production. In this seminar we will introduce the RoboCup Logistics League that aims on providing an appealing testbed for multi-agent planning and plan execution in dynamic environments which lately received a lot of attention by the planning and robotics community. The testbed resembles a flexible production setup where on-demand orders with varying configurations need to be produced by a set of machines in cooperation with a fleet of mobile robots. The challenges are to come up on-the-fly with production schedules reflecting varying configurations of product and the shop floor, to react to contingencies like broken machines or failed robot activities, and to execute the schedule in the real world. Besides the setup of the competition we will present the existing frameworks and tools (e.g. simulations) and will discuss work of leading teams connected to multi-agent systems and cognitive robotics.

Bio

Gerald Steinbauer-Wagner is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Software Technology at Graz University of Technology and leads the research group on Autonomous Intelligent Systems. His research interest lies in the intersection of Robotics, AI, and Software Engineering. In particular his team conducts research on improving the dependability of autonomous robots by combining methods from symbolic AI like KRR, planning, and diagnosis with model-based development methods origin in SWE. He is a long time participant in RoboCup in different leagues, was general chair of RoboCup 2009, and acts as a member of the board of the RoboCup Federation.
