Abstract

This talk will provide an overview of the Semantic Robots research profile, a 6-year initiative funded by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation (KKS, 2014-2020). Research activities in the profile are grounded on industrial case-studies, elicited in tight collaboration with major Swedish industrial partners with an interest in autonomous systems (Atlas Copco, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Trucks, Husqvarna, Saab, Kollmorgen, Arho, and Fotonic). The case-studies are used to spawn novel research questions, seeking to advance the state of the art in the fields of AI and Robotics, with a specific focus on their intersection. The work conducted during the first half of the profile has led to several advancements in mapping and localization in challenging outdoor environments, automatic semantic annotation of aerial maps, vision-based human detection, and multi-robot motion planning and coordination. Semantic Robots provides a platform for the three labs at AASS to integrate their complementary competencies, and currently supports 12 senior researchers at AASS.
