Om Jono Van Belle
Jono Van Belle är docent i medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap vid Örebro universitet. Hon disputerade 2019 med en gemensam doktorsexamen från Gents universitet och Stockholms universitet. Avhandlingen, Scenes from an Audience, undersökte hur publiken i Sverige och Belgien upplevde och mindes Ingmar Bergman och hans filmer.
Forskning
Van Belles forskning handlar om film- och tv-publiker, med fokus på minne, kulturell identitet och demokrati. I projektet Filmpubliken i Sverige: En studie om biografens storhetstid och tillbakagång, lett av Åsa Jernudd, genomförde hon muntliga historieintervjuer för att undersöka biobesök i Sverige under 1950- och 1960-talen och hur publiken minns televisionens intåg. Tillsammans med Dag Balkmar har hon också skrivit om mediala minnens betydelse i subkulturer som skateboardåkning.
Hennes forskning om det internationella mottagandet av Ingmar Bergman undersöker hur kulturellt minne och identitet förhandlas genom film. Tillsammans med María Paz Peirano och Fernando Ramos Arenas har hon redigerat antologin Ingmar Bergman Out of Focus: Film Cultures and International Reception (Berghahn, 2025). Boken undersöker hur Bergmans filmer togs emot i olika politiska, religiösa och socioekonomiska sammanhang runt om i världen, från Francos Spanien till filmklubbar bland polska gruvarbetare och Uruguay, där Bergman upptäcktes som auteur före resten av världen.
I det europeiska projektet Digiscreens studerade hon strömningstjänster, mediepolitik och hur publiker förhandlar identiteter och demokratiska värden genom audiovisuell fiktion. Tillsammans med Georgia Aitaki och Maria Jansson har hon fortsatt detta arbete inom ett initiativ finansierat av Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, som har resulterat i ett temanummer av tidskriften Participations: "The Citizen Viewer: Fiction, Audiences, and Democracy in the Streaming Era".
Tillsammans med kollegor runt om i Europa bygger hon just nu upp ett nätverk som samlar arkiv för rörlig bild, forskare och yrkesverksamma för att undersöka hur arkivfilm och arkiv-tv cirkulerar och hur detta kulturarv kan främja demokratisk tillgång och allmänhetens delaktighet.
Bakgrund
Van Belle har en bakgrund inom film- och tv-produktion. Hon har arbetat som tv-reporter för Man Bijt Hond på Woestijnvis, som klippare för nyheter och sport på VRT, Belgiens public service-bolag, och som Producer Creative & Design på MTV (Viacom International Media Networks). Hon skriver även för film och har senast varit medmanusförfattare till ett långfilmsmanus om Peter Paul Rubens för Cine3.
