Om Louise Sund

Louise Sund is researcher in Education at the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Örebro University. She is Associate Professor at the School of Education, Culture and Communication, Mälardalen University. She is a member of the research group ESERGO (Environmental and Sustainability Education Research Group Örebro) in the field of didactics and educational science at Örebro University.

A former secondary educator and experienced teacher educator, her research draws on postcolonial and decolonial theoretical resources to examine productive pedagogical tensions in environmental and sustainability education and education for global citizenship. Her PhD research took its point of departure in the change of emphasis in the field of environmental and sustainability education towards the inclusion of social and human development issues. She is currently involved in a research project on teaching global equity and justice issues that aims to empirically investigate the challenges that teachers face when addressing these issues in their classrooms and identify how this work can be developed and supported.

Louise is a regular reviewer for a number of international journals such as Environmental Education Research, Journal of Environmental Education, Journal of Curriculum Studies, and Journal of Moral Education. She is a founding member of EERA’s Environmental and Sustainability Education Research network and a member of the convening group. She is a regular presenter at this conference having presented there since 2012. Recent publications include a book chapter (Pashby and Sund, 2020) in the Bloomsbury Handbook for Global Education and Learning and an article in the Journal of Environmental Education on delinking global issues in northern Europe classrooms (Sund and Pashby, 2020).

Research areas: Environmental and sustainability education, post/de-colonial engagements with environmental education, ethical global issues pedagogy
